PRESIDENT’S NOTE, HEPATOPANCREATOBILIARY ASSOCIATION (SINGAPORE)
Dear Friends and Colleagues
It is a great honour and privilege for me to serve as the 5th President of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Association of Singapore (HPBA(S)).
The HPBA(S) serves as a professional body which brings together members from across the HPB community in Singapore, organising itself into a cohesive and integrated society. We have in our membership doctors, scientists and other medical professionals from across Singapore, at current totaling 84 members. The society has grown from strength to strength, engaging more and more members. We are also attracting younger, promising members into the team, which is critical for progress.
Since its inception in August 2012, it has taken the lead to organise multiple events locally and regionally, such as the A-PHPBA Congress 2015 and ASEAN Lap HPB conference in 2018. The success of these events is due to the unwavering support of our fraternity and the strong contributions from the international community.
HPBA(S) strives to raise awareness of HPB related diseases in the greater community, improving the standards of healthcare for HPB diseases in Singapore. We have been engaging our General Practitioner partners through GP forums, and the general public through Public Forums. All these are all well attended, therefore forging that collaborative effort in our pursuit for better care, aligned with the healthcare needs of Singapore.
A lot more needs to be done including enhanced collaboration across the public sector hospitals and private sector for research and training, developing guidelines for managing HPB conditions, raising awareness of health problems and organ donation to name a few. I will continue to strive to realize the objectives of the Association and my sincere gratitude for your support. I humbly look forward to leading the HPBA(S) in the coming years, bringing the organisation to greater heights.
It also give me great pleasure to announce that Singapore has been selected as the destination for the Biennial International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association (IHPBA) World Congress 2026. This highly prestigious event brings together the global HPB committee and I seek the assistance of everyone to make this event an astounding success, bringing the best of Singapore to the world.
